Creative writing is about using your imagination and coming up with write ups that people find entertaining. Examples of creative writing include fictional stories, non-fictional stories, novels, short stories, poetry and plays. Creative writing is practised to entertain people instead of educating them. Many writers struggle with creative writing when they suffer from writer’s block. Writer’s block refers to a condition when writers are unable to produce new work. Following are few creative writing tips, which will help creative writers overcome writer’s block and come up with wonderful stories or poems:

Physical exercises might help in drafting well-written pieces

Although individuals do physical exercises to lose weight, but these exercises enhance mental capabilities as well. Therefore if a writer is short of ideas, he or she should stretch out few muscles before he or she sits down to write.

Creative writers must have a clear and stress free mind

Writers need to have a clear and stress free mind before writing a poem, a story or a play. If their minds are already occupied with worrying thoughts or emotions then they may not get great ideas to make their write-ups interesting for their audience.

Editing and proofreading

Most writers despise editing or proofreading their written pieces. However, editing is one of the most important tasks to do after a creative writer has written something.  Proofreading or editing helps writers spot their mistakes and correct them before the readers find them.

Write sentences that are simple, concise, and powerful

Creative writing is all about making a powerful impact on the audience. Inspiring or entertaining the public is not an easy task. However, creative writers can engagetheir readers by writing simple, concise, and powerful sentences. For this purpose, writers must have good vocabulary in order to explain each action appropriately in their write-ups.

Ideas come out of nowhere, so writers should note them down

A creative writer cannot spend an entire day thinking of ideas to include in his or her write-ups. Ideas come out of nowhere. A person cannot predict when and where he or she will get a new idea. Hence, keeping a notebook will help writers in noting down their ideas whenever possible.

Creative writers must have a plan

Before starting a creative writing project, a writer must have a plan to ensure that he or she is following the right procedure. A plan must contain a step by step process to help the writer save his or her time and effort.

Use brainstorming activity

A person becomes more productive when he or she is working with a team. In teams, team members list down all the possible solutions to solve a problem, and then select one solution that seems to be the most effective one. This activity is referred to as brainstorming. A creative writer can also form a team and conduct a brainstorming session with it. Brainstorming activity will help the writer to develop a creative writing plan to follow and pen down a wonderful story or poem.

While writing a creative piece, writers may feel that their write-ups are pieces of junk and that they cannot write. However, they should never lose hope because with consistent practise, they will enhance their writing skills and write wonderful stories, poems or plays.
